The photos and commentary paint a vivid picture of a culture considerably different than that of many us. The commonality of spirit and enjoyment of things such as good food and dance shines through in the pictures.

Pete!
Oh my gosh it’s been too long. I chatted with tu esposa last weekend because the gods decreed that I call the Hoesing household. I hope you’re having a great time in Uganda. From the looks of things here I can’t imagine you aren’t.
Keep doing the good work, sir.

Pete,
I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that you can speak local languages in Africa and are living the dream as an ethnomusicologist. Wow! I’m sitting in my home in Tipton, IA, looking at my 4 month old baby sleeping in his swing and reflecting on what I need to do to have my HS band end the year sounding awesome while you are interacting with a culture half a world away. It’s amazing how life takes us down different paths, isn’t it! I really enjoy checking out your website. Thanks for adding the notes about you and your Jenn on vacation.

Thanks, Dusty. I’ve been really fortunate to have good support for this research, and it’s been an amazing journey. Life in Iowa sounds good, man. Hope to see some pix of your family at some point…Cheers!
